LIVESTRONG Global Envoy and Olympic Medalist, Eric Shanteau, is hosting a really unique event called Swim For Your Life at Atlanta’s Lake Lanier Islands October 8th, 2011 for a full day of open water swimming races and clinics full of entertainment and the chance to meet some of your favorite Olympians in the spirit of kicking cancer to the curb.
Not familiar with Eric’s story? It’s pretty amazing.
Eric Shanteau graduated from Auburn University with a degree in Entrepreneurship and Family Business in the fall of 2006. During his swimming career at Auburn, he won four SEC and four NCAA titles. Eric has been a professional swimmer since graduation.
Diagnosed with cancer just weeks before the 2008 Olympic Trials, Eric Shanteau consulted several doctors and family members before deciding to postpone treatment and go for his dream. After successfully qualifying for the 2008 Olympics, Eric was off to Beijing to compete on the world?s greatest stage all the while knowing that he would be in for a different kind of fight when he returned home.
Once he returned home, Eric found enormous support in the LIVESTRONG and is now living and training cancer free.
This past year at the World Championships in Rome, Italy broke the American Record in both the 100 and 200 meter breaststrokes and became a World Champion and World Record Holder as a member of the 4×100 medley relay. Eric lived and trained in Austin for four years until recently moving to Southern California. Eric is currently training at USC for the 2012 Olympic Games.
We are proud to have Eric a part of the LIVESTRONG family. Check out < ” Target=”_blank”>Swim for Your Life and register to attend today.
