First, I’d like to thank all of our Austin area donors who turned out in force yesterday and helped us raise more than $17,500 for the city’s annual day of giving – Amplify Austin. Special thanks to both our anonymous donor that pledged $10,000 during our “Power Hour” and our friends at Verb and Blackbaud who graciously provided matching funds of $15,000 allowing us to double down on our mission to the tune of $32,000. Thanks to all!
Let’s pull back on the lens a little to focus on a broader landscape…the whole United States. Congress will be making important decisions in the coming weeks about the fiscal year 2017 budget. We want to make sure they prioritize funding for cancer survivorship services.
Yesterday, we launched a call to action to LIVESTRONG supporters. My colleague, Cameron Krier Massey, has offered four easy steps detailing how you can support our advocacy work. This starts with making just a few minutes to call your U.S. Representative and ask them to sign the cancer survivorship funding letter by March 21. We don’t have much time, so please take action today.
LIVESTRONG understands the importance of survivorship services. They are core to our mission. Programs like LIVESTRONG at the YMCA, cancer navigation services, and research for post-treatment care are imperative to helping survivors get the care and support they need during and after treatment. With the number of cancer survivors expected to rise to 18 million in just the next few years, we must dedicate federal funding to expand and replicate programs that work, but we can’t do it alone. We need your help.
We are so grateful to you; because of your energy and efforts we continue to make great strides and changes in the fight against cancer.
