We’re excited to announce our bigger and even more diverse 2014 events calendar!
Events have been a part of our DNA for some time here at LIVESTRONG. What started as a single ride in Austin, Texas, blossomed into the opportunity to connect supporters around the globe with ways to participate in a variety of athletic events with the common mantra of fighting cancer.
In 2014, we felt passionately about highlighting the breadth and scope of our events. This year, you can cycle in Michigan, play ultimate disc in San Fran, run along the coast in Virginia, race a steam engine in Colorado, celebrate a legacy of running, riding and fundraising in Philly, take part in a group relay in Austin or try your first marathon in New York City, to name a few.
Our organization is focused on keeping the cancer patient at the center of our work and events are no exception. Each event experience offers a unique opportunity to share your cancer story, fundraise to support our programs and services and improve the lives of people who are affected by cancer right now.
Through partnerships and event design, we are dedicated to fostering camaraderie in the cancer community and building bonds between cancer survivors and cancer fighters. Here are some of the highlights to look forward to this year:
- In February, as part of our Team LIVESTRONG Austin Marathon and Half Marathon team, we have more than 100 runners participating on behalf of their friend Kate, who lost her battle with melanoma last year.
- In June, we will have the largest charity team participating in the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon. Despite the difficulty of this event, many are using this event to honor a loved one who fought cancer and won! Seeing their determination to live beyond the disease has inspired 29 people to raise funds and use this event as an opportunity to pay it forward.
- In August, we are returning to Philly for our ninth year with the Team LIVESTRONG Challenge Philly. We have reorganized the event to bring runners and riders together in celebration of life and survivorship. All of this year’s events are geared toward cancer survivors and their networks of family and friends. With almost 50% of our supporters returning to the event in 2013, we know there is a deep seeded commitment to fighting cancer on the East Coast, and we encourage you to become part of this legacy event.
- In October, Team LIVESTRONG will return for our second year to the Marine Corps Marathon. Touted as “The People’s Marathon,” this is the fourth largest marathon in the U.S. and showcases our nation’s capital and historic monuments on the race route. In 2013, we were thrilled to bring a team of 50 runners to a city where initiatives like OVAC and the Affordable Care Act has allowed LIVESTRONG to influence the cancer conversation at the highest level.
We are also excited to announce the launch of our dedicated Team LIVESTRONG Facebook page. Here you can read about upcoming events and connect with other members of the Team LIVESTRONG community. Take a peek at our new page and hit “Like” to stay in the loop!
