LIVESTRONG talks with Jerry and Amy Frostick of J&A Racing, directors of the Yuengling Shamrock Marathon Weekend in Virginia Beach, VA. The LIVESTRONG Foundation is the official charity partner of the Marathon, and Team LIVESTRONG has participated in this fun, St. Patrick’s Day-themed weekend since 2011, with more than 490 runners having raised over $200,000 for the Foundation’s mission. Jerry and Amy proudly support the LIVESTRONG Foundation, and here they share with us their experience in the fight against cancer.
How have you been affected by cancer?
AF: I watched a very close friend struggle and lose her life to cancer. She was a fighter and fought the battle for nearly seven years while still participating in endurance events and volunteering in several leadership roles, including our Shamrock committee.
JF: I lost my grandmother to cancer, and my mom is a two-time survivor who is battling it now. I have lost numerous friends, young and old, to this horrible disease.
Why do you support the Foundation and Team LIVESTRONG?
AF: It is a way to fundraise and give back to one of the best charities out there! I love the LIVESTRONG mission and the way they have touched so many lives.
JF: When my mom was diagnosed the second time, the first person I called was Greg Lee at LIVESTRONG. Through LIVESTRONG, I feel that my family and I are not alone in this fight.
What does LIVESTRONG mean to you?
AF: It means FIGHT, LIVE life to the fullest, BE STRONG and LOVE!
JF: LIVESTRONG to me means never having to face your cancer fears alone. LIVESTRONG genuinely cares about me and gives me the strength and confidence to never give up.
What is one piece of advice you would give to someone affected by cancer?
AF: I would tell them that they are not alone and to contact LIVESTRONG to help them navigate their way through this awful disease.
JF: Call LIVESTRONG, and don’t try to tackle this alone. I promise you will be glad you did.
