This past weekend’s LIVESTRONG Challenge Austin closed out the 2013 Team LIVESTRONG Challenge Series with a definite bang, and from all of us here on staff we’d like to say to all of our riders, donors, and volunteers: THANK YOU!!!
The festivities began with a couple of very special dinners where we were able to personally thank and show our top fundraisers how the funds they raised are going to work every day helping people with cancer, right now. Of note were our top team, Cyclists Combating Cancer, our top individual, LIVESTRONG‘s great friend Jeff Mulder, and our top individual messenger, Russ Owen.
At each of the dinners we were also honored to have two very special cancer survivors share their stories. Ethan Zohn from the reality show Survivor, and Diem Brown from MTV, both inspired our folks not only with their personal stories of survival, but even more so in what they have done with those opportunities since then.
Sunday morning and it was time for the Big Show as more than 2200 riders descended on downtown Austin for bike rides ranging from 20 – 100 miles with perfect weather, starting off a little chilly but then blossoming into a gorgeous 74F central Texas Fall day. One of our favorite survivors, Jimmy Fowkes, started the ride off and then it was all smiles as the peloton went south out and back and then enjoyed a solid after party that included some great food as well as a Michelob Ultra or 2, if you were so inclined.
Once again, a HUGE thanks to everyone who came out, and to all the donors who supported them. We promise to work each and every day to help those affected by cancer, right now. We can’t do it without your help, and we look forward to seeing at our next event, coming very soon. Thanks again, for all you do!
