A Team LIVESTRONG Challenge Austin Story: John

Join John and Team LIVESTRONG at an event this year. Whether you run, ride or tri in 2013, do it with Team LIVESTRONG. Visit www.teamlivestrong.org for more information about events currently open for registration.

What’s your name and where are you from?
My name is John Thomas and I live in Cedar Park, Texas, just north of Austin.

How have you been affected by cancer?

I was diagnosed in December 2012 with stage IV oropharyngeal (throat) squamous cell carcinoma. I have since undergone 35 radiation treatments and 3 rounds of chemo. I am now, hopefully, recovering.

In what event are you participating with Team LIVESTRONG?

I rode the 65 mile route last year in Austin. This year I am signed up for the long ride – 100 miles.

Have you used the LIVESTRONG Foundation’s Navigation Services?
Yes, I have used the Navigation Services and Guidebook. They helped me organize my treatments and keep up with my progress. I think LIVESTRONG provides an invaluable service to those affected by cancer.

What does LIVESTRONG mean to you?

The opportunity to help and to share with other cancer patients/survivors.

Share one piece of advice you would give to someone affected by cancer.

Settle in for a long recovery and be patient.
