The Silicon Valley nonprofit HopeLab has been pioneering new ways to use technology to help young cancer patients fight their disease for more than 10 years. We are delighted to announce Re-Mission 2, a new collection of cancer-fighting mini-games, playable online at re-mission2.org.
The games are a follow up to HopeLab’s original Re-Mission game, launched in 2006. Re-Mission was the first game scientifically proven to improve treatment adherence in adolescents and young adults with cancer. In addition to insights from this research, we’ve incorporated the direct input of more than 120 teens and young adults with cancer from across the U.S. to help make sure the games are actually fun to play!
Each Re-Mission 2 game puts players inside the body to defeat cancer, using weapons like chemotherapy, antibiotics and the body’s immune cells. Research shows that the Re-Mission 2 games are as effective as the original Re-Mission game in increasing players’ self-efficacy, boosting positive emotions and shifting attitudes about chemotherapy.
The LIVESTRONG Foundation has provided generous development funding and distribution support to HopeLab for Re-Mission 2 and is helping to raise visibility for this free resource for young cancer patients. We are thrilled to partner with the Foundation in this work.
