Ride The Beaches of Venice, Florida

April 28th will be the 11th year for Sharky’s on the Pier’s charity bike ride, RIDE THE BEACHES. This year, the ride will once again be supporting the LIVESTRONG Foundation.

In 2012, Sharky’s hosted 1000 cyclists and raised over $25,000.00 for the LIVESTRONG Foundation, which was our biggest year so far. They have raised in excess of $87,000.00 for The Foundation in the history of RIDE THE BEACHES and with your support 2013 will be another record fund raiser. The owners and employees of Sharky’s, along with community members, donate their time to this event so every penny over cost goes to support the Foundation.

About the ride:
All riders will start the day with breakfast on the beach at Sharky’s. Breakfast will be fresh fruit, juice, bagels, homemade fruit bread and coffee. All rest stops will be stocked with water, sports drink, fresh fruit, snacks and/or sandwiches. Lunch will be outdoor grilled BBQ chicken, Caesar salad, pasta, bread and vegetable, served on the beach at Sharky’s.

The Routes:
The 15 mile ride stays on the island of Venice, Florida. There is an optional extra 4 miles that goes off the island, on the Venetian Waterway Trail. This ride is suitable for most anybody with a bike. You will ride to Casperson Beach and access the Waterway Trail. After riding the trail to the north side of Venice you will ride low traffic roads to the Venice Yacht Club for a rest stop. From there you will meander through residential side streets back to Sharky’s.

The 35 mile ride will take you over the Intercoastal Waterway to the neighborhood streets of south Venice. You will cross the Intercoastal Waterway again for your first rest stop. You then ride down beautiful Manasota Key, so close to the beach you have to watch for sand in the road! After returning up the key you will hit the rest stop again and head back to Venice, this time using the Venetian Waterway Trail part of the way.

The 70 mile ride will follow the 35 milers for the first half. This is the perfect opportunity for couples and friends of different riding levels to ride together for the first part of the ride. After Manasota Key the ride will head east through the horse-farm country. There will be a rest stop along the Myakka River and from there riders head west again to pick of Sarasota County’s newest biking jewel, the Legacy Trail. Taking this up to Osprey, over to Casey Key there will be more riding along the beach and then back to the island of Venice and Sharky’s for lunch.
