#LSChat: New LIVESTRONG Survivorship Chat Series

The LIVESTRONG Foundation is excited to announce a new series of survivorship tweetchats to discuss cancer survivorship. We invite all?cancer patients, survivors, health professionals, and other “tweeps” interested in survivorship issues?to participate. The chats will be moderated by a LIVESTRONG staffer, who will ask a series of questions aimed at cancer survivorship issues throughout the duration of the chat, inviting responses and questions from everyone. We will also invite a series of prominent advocates and survivors to participate in these chats. We hope to attract many passionate tweeters to join our survivorship community but also welcome those who simply want to observe the chat through the #LSChat hashtag. We will moderate the tweetchat for 1 hour, though continuous survivorship discussions are encouraged!

Our first tweetchat will take place THIS WEEK– April 04, 2013 at 12:00pm CST with a topic of Young Adults with Cancer in honor of National Young Adult Cancer Awareness Week. Conversations can be followed by using the #LSChat hashtag. We will also be promoting a series of tweetchats in the coming months focusing on various survivorship topics. Below is a tentative schedule of upcoming topics, but stay tuned for updates. We at the LIVESTRONG Foundation are excited to tweet with you all! New to tweetchats? We?ve outlined some information below on what to expect:

What is a tweetchat anyway?
A tweetchat is a simple way to get people together at a specific time to talk about a certain topic. Each tweetchat has a designated hashtag, such as #LSChat, which serves to compile all tweets into a stream, making it easily searchable. There is usually a moderator who directs the conversation by asking questions throughout the chat.

How do I participate?

By searching the hashtag on Twitter you can view the progress of the discussion and join in from there. Pay attention to the questions asked by the moderator but feel free to contribute your own questions as long as they relate to the topic. Be respectful of the issues and questions presented as well as tweets from other contributors!

How can I keep up?

Tweetchats are usually fast-paced but tools such as HootSuite, TweetChat, and TweetDeck help filter the discussion from other tweets on your feed and allow you to view the conversation in one stream. Don?t worry if it seems overwhelming, we will post the transcript after to review any important information that you may have initially missed. Check out Tweet Chats 101 and How to Join a Twitter Chat for other useful information to help you get started.

What about other cancer-related tweetchats?

Look for #BCSM Monday nights at 9ET for breast cancer chats as well as #bigCchat Monday-Friday at 12 Noon PST for general cancer topics. You can find additional cancer and other healthcare tweetchats by searching through Symplur.

We look forward to chatting with you all!
