Team LIVESTRONG Marathon Captain Gives Thanks

Team LIVESTRONG runners had huge success at the LIVESTRONG Austin Marathon, Half Marathon and Paramount 5k! More than 500 cancer fighting runners took the streets of Austin on 2/17/2013 and raised almost $300,000 for the mission. Team Captain, Amy Dodson, provides a recap of the amazing weekend!
“As I’ve basked in the glow of the 2013 LIVESTRONG Marathon over the last 2 weeks, many things have come to mind. The strength and the unity of Team LIVESTRONG is one of them.
Team members were there to compete, support, cheer, and help in any way they could find. What is most impressive is that the Team is just not the cancer survivors and their families; it’s also the staff of LIVESTRONG. I was so impressed with how unified they are as colleagues, but also how they function as an intricate part of the cancer survivors missions of finishing the half or full marathons. They know the team members by name; they know the stories; they know the struggles; they know the pain.
I think that one of the reasons I feel such unity with LIVESTRONG is because of the staff. They are not separate from us – they are a part of us.
To walk into a warm room after finishing the race and be greeted by staffers with a smile and a “How’d you do?” ”Was it fun?” “You did great!” Made me feel so good.
As we sat around and waited for our teammates to finish, staffers were tracking the runners on the course – they knew where Team LIVESTRONG members were. Their genuine care and love for the LIVESTRONG movement shone brightly.
I just want to thank my fellow teammates for a great race, a tremendous sense of camaraderie, and tons of inspiration. I was there as a guest speaker and Team Captain, but I feel we all led the team.
To the LIVESTRONG staff, thank you for being you. Thank you for your support, your help, your endless giving of time and energy. You truly are a VERY special group of people. I am honored to know you and be of service to you and the movement.
