The LIVESTRONG Leader program engages volunteers around the world to serve and inspire cancer survivors.
Within their local communities, Leaders promote LIVESTRONG?s navigation services, resources and other key programs; support our advocacy work around important policy and legislation; and fundraise. By supporting our priorities, developing relationships with community leaders and initiating their own activities, more communities and individuals are impacted by our mission and services.
Part of our global team, Florian Simon shares his experience as a LIVESTRONG leader in Arcueil, France – and speaks to his motivation to bid a final adieu to cancer.
What does LIVESTRONG mean to you?
For me, LIVESTRONG is a warrior against cancer. It has the strength and knowledge for helping people around the world fight against cancer.
Why are you a Leader?
I am a LIVESTRONG Leader because I want to be part of a worldwide force to help people to fight against cancer. I became involved because my grandfather had cancer. I thought ?I want to become a full-time cancer fighter and help people…and organise the celebration of LIVESTRONG Day.?
What are you doing in your community?
I am trying to make a difference in my community in France. I go to Beauvais Hospital, where there is also the League against Cancer. Currently I am working with the hospital and the League to make a regular initiative to offer support to patients. We plan to spend every Thursday talking with people with cancer, to give them emotional and practical support. We will cook with them, interact and play with them. At the moment this is still in the planning stage but we are advancing little by little.
Within the Institut Polytechnique LaSalle Beauvais where I study, I raise awareness and also offer the LIVESTRONG wristbands to people who want to donate for them. I have an idea that I want to create, once a year in one month (similar to Movember) – which I will make an awareness event.
In the future and when I finish my studies, I would like to organize really BIG events in different cities in France and help the fight against cancer and raise awareness about this scourge. I am excited for the future of LIVESTRONG in France.
We are so grateful for the work of LIVESTRONG leaders like Florian. Think you might want to get involved?
