Tonight at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park, we’ll celebrate LIVESTRONG Night as Sporting KC takes on the Houston Dynamo (7:30PM CDT – NBC Sports).
This special night will highlight the relationship between the Foundation and LIVESTRONG Sporting Park. It’s more than just a stadium – it’s the only athletic venue in the world to champion the cancer cause and is breaking down the stigma that surrounds this disease that affects nearly all of us.
During halftime at Friday’s game, the Foundation and Sporting Club will recognize the LIVESTRONG Leaders of Kansas City:
- Michelle Derusseau
- Craig Gabel
- Leesa Gabel
- Mike Harper
- Michael Johnson
- Cory Scheer
Through their efforts at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park, these Leaders have been at every single home game this season spreading cancer awareness to members of their community and strengthening the spirit of survivorship. We believe that in sport, in life and in the fight to beat cancer, you need a strong team to win, and we are so glad to have the LIVESTRONG Leaders of Kansas City as part of our team.
In addition to our amazing leaders, Sporting Club will welcome Charlie Walsh as the LIVESTRONG Yellow Seat honoree. The night before Charlie’s third birthday he was diagnosed with brain cancer. Charlie is now eight years old and his family works to raise money for brain cancer by selling lemonade and each year organizes 500 volunteers for Alex’s Lemonade Stand.
If you’re headed to the game, be sure to look for Charlie in the yellow seat and visit Foundation staff and leaders at our LIVESTRONG booths at the Sprint Plaza. If you’re not able to be there in person, be sure to follow the game on NBC Sports at 7:30PM CDT. Go Sporting KC!
