Each LIVESTRONG Quarterly we create is important to us, but this issue is special for several reasons. We talk with our friend and LIVESTRONG Global Envoy, Ethan Zohn, who is facing his second battle with cancer. He decided to run the 2011 ING New York City Marathon just before he began treatment, despite his doctors’ concerns. “I took the LIVESTRONG attitude and decided to be fearless,” Zohn, TV’s “Survivor: Africa” champ, says. His story and fearless attitude resonated with us here at the Foundation, as I’m sure it will with many of you. (And he ran the 26.2 miles in 4 hours, 20 minutes!)
This issue also contains our 2011 Annual Report with information about our programs, research, events, advocacy efforts, partners and financial information. 2011 was a banner year for our organization, thanks to the generosity of supporters like you.
And we remember our dear friend, Jere Carpentier. A three-time survivor, determined advocate and inspiration to many, Jere embodied the LIVESTRONG spirit. She fought cancer for more than 14 years on her own terms, and she advocated for progress against this disease both in her home state of California and in the halls of Congress. We appreciate her tireless efforts and her amazing heart.
These are just a few of the remarkable stories in the latest issue of the LIVESTRONG Quarterly. We hope you’ll be as inspired and moved by them as we are.
