The Team LIVESTRONG Challenge Davis in just over a month away! We are thrilled to be coming back to Davis, CA for the second year for this event. Whether you join us as a rider, a spectator or a volunteer there is something at the event for everyone so I put together a list of 5 reasons why you should be there:
1. Big city reception, in a small town
When you arrive in the small, quiet town of Davis, CA on event weekend you would think that you have arrived in a neighboring city like San Jose, San Francisco or Sacramento. The reception and the “buzz” in the air is that of a larger city when they are hosting a big event. From Friday during our venue setup all the way through Sunday. The City of Davis is fantastic at welcoming guests to their city and you get all the hype of a big city in a small town which is really cool. Listen to Bob Bowen from last year’s Challenge give you a rundown of the awesomeness of Davis.
2. The Course –
We have 3 routes this year, 20, 65 and 100 miles. All courses are designed and planned by Medalist Sports who plan the routes for just about every big time professional race in the country (including the Amgen Tour of California). These beautiful rides will take riders through picturesque landscapes of northern California. All rides were designed to have minimal elevation gain so you can expect a fast, flat ride!
3. Rider Tracker App
We are introducing a brand new rider tracker app this year. Downloadable for free via the Apple App Store to your iPhone, Android or computer spectators can track when their rider will reach certain points on course and be there to cheer them on. The app will also contain handy info on event weekend like maps, schedules and FAQ’s. Note: the app is not available to download yet but we will make an announcement to the public when it is up and ready.
4. Party On!
We love to make our events feel like a party and want everyone to stick around and have a good time. That’s why we have our Post Event Party in the LIVESTRONG Village in Central Park. There will be local food vendors, a beer tent, interactive games courtesy of our sponsors, a Kids Zone for the little ones and more. Meet up with your friends or family after the ride and have a good time. There will be a bike valet so you don’t have to worry about walking around all day with your bike.
5. Downtown Davis
The best part about coming into town a day or two before the event is to experience downtown Davis. Mostly everything is within walking distance and they have a great amount of good places to eat (My favorite is Burgers & Brew). Be sure to check out the campus at UC Davis as well as the US Bicycling Hall of Fame in Central Park. Both are very cool.
Most importantly we host this event to raise money for LIVESTRONG’s programs and services to help people affected by cancer. We set a goal to raise $1 million at this event and we need everyone’s help to reach that goal. I hope you join us in Davis this year on June 24.
