Team LIVESTRONG Crushes the Pittsburgh Marathon

This past weekend, more than 90 members of Team LIVESTRONG participated in…err…crushed the Dick’s Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon. Under clear skies and warm temperatures, our runners braved the crowds, the heat, the pavement, and the miles all to trample on cancer’s face.
I had the pleasure of joining our team in Pittsburgh for the weekend, and what a weekend it turned out to be. On Friday, while I was at the marathon expo meeting runners, the team passed the $75,000 mark for this event. Tie that into a team breakfast and post-run gathering, and you get a relaxed, enjoyable weekend that served as an opportunity for cancer haters to unite and generate inspiring awareness for LIVESTRONG and our mission.
I cannot thank our courageous runners enough for their hard work in fundraising and training for this event. Completing a half or full marathon is an amazing feat in and of itself, and for each of our runners to have also completed a successful fundraising campaign on top of that only adds to the experience and value of the event.
So, thank you to everyone who participated as a member of Team LIVESTRONG this past weekend. We wouldn’t be able to provide the resources we do if it weren’t for your efforts. I hope that we’ll see you again in 2013.
