Where were you when you got the call?
Your uncle went to the doctor because he had a cough he just couldn’t get rid of. Your girlfriend says she has a lump, but she’s not too worried because she’s had them before. Your childhood friend’s dad has a follow-up visit with a specialist so they ask you to please say a prayer. Your sister tells you her immune system has been acting cranky. Those calls are bad.
But, it’s the call that comes with negative results that stops you in your footsteps. It takes your breath away. It’s a moment frozen in time. You’ll never forget it, but you wish you could. Richie has lung cancer. Pam has breast cancer. Mr. Smith has colon cancer. Amy has lymphoma.
Now what do you do? You show support. You go into action. You make a call.
In South Florida you can take action by walking, running, riding, volunteering or donating to
Livelong Benefiting LIVESTRONG, October 13-14 in Hallandale Beach for the Lance Armstrong Foundation to unite, inspire and empower the cancer community to address the unmet needs of cancer survivors. Title sponsor, Zimmerman Advertising’s Livelong Benefiting LIVESTRONG is presented by the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital and hosted by Gulfstream Park and Casino.
Make the call to ride with us on one of the most beautiful charity rides in the country. After a carb-filled breakfast, we’ll take you alongside the crystal, clear, green, Atlantic Ocean and its white sandy beaches. You’ll navigate some great bridges over the Intracoastal waterways where you’ll see beautiful boats and yachts of all sizes, turn around and return. There will be plenty of rest stops with hydration, snacks, and cheering – and, of course, SAG support along the way. This ride will test your will and your strength, but just by participating you have passed the most important test of all…giving back to others! Rides are 62, 31 or 10.2 miles.
Or if your call is to run, you’ll find the course fast and flat. Both run distances – 1/2 Marathon and 5K Run/Walk are USATF certified. The run will take you through beautiful tree-lined streets, across the Intracoastal and along the Atlantic Ocean. If you can run or walk, this is a great way to participate. Do it for the cause, not the hardware.
There will also be an activity area for kids. And, in typical celebratory fashion, there will be a fantastic post-event gathering for participants and spectators complete with local food and drink vendors.
There isn’t one of us that haven’t been touched directly or indirectly by cancer. This is a great opportunity for folks to do something positive for those affected.
