Join Team LIVESTRONG at RAGBRAI 2012!

If you’re a cyclist and have never ridden the week long Des Moines “Register’s Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa” – far more better known as RAGBRAI – we’ve got a bucket list item for you.  And if you have ridden across one of our favorite states, you know just how much fun it can be.  But regardless of your RAGBRAI experience, first time or twentieth time, Team LIVESTRONG wants you to join us on July 22-28, the 40th anniversary of the largest and longest touring bicycle ride in the world!

So what exactly can you expect from a RAGBRAI experience?  Most veterans will tell you it is whatever you want it to be.  Yes, you’ll ride your bike for 60-70 miles a day for 7  days – so you’ll need to be ready – but this ride is far more about the experience than it is logging training miles.  On any given day there will be between 10-20,000 riders navigating the roads from the Missouri River to the mighty Mississippi, and with never a mass start it is true: you’ll never see the front and you’ll never see the back, the ride goes on and on…

Some folks will make RAGBRAI a family vacation, others a right of passage.  You’ll see riders in hard core vacation mode, and then you’ll pass by someone on a Penny Farthing just after a recumbent bike made to look like a banana.  On RAGBRAI, it’s all good.  Life at Team LIVESTRONG embraces the culture fully.  We’re here to make a difference of course in the fight against cancer (each team rider commits to raising at least $1500 for the cause). But once you get to camp – and RAGBRAI is a camping experience, FYI – it’s time to get on the bike, make some great new friends, renew acquaintances, and enjoy the amazing hospitality that the people across Iowa provide.  We have a great happy hour after each day’s ride, sharing stories from the road, then spend some quality time in the overnight town with outstanding food and drink, and plenty of live music till it’s time to get some rest before the next day’s adventure.

“I never thought I’d ever ride a bike across Iowa,” said Team LIVESTRONG captain Brian Myers. “But after last year’s experience I can’t wait to go back.  We’re looking at 2012 as if we’re ‘putting the band back together’ with some veteran LIVESTRONG RAGBRAI staffers like Chris, Justin, and Kim along. We want as many of the folks who have joined us before to come on back, as well as all our new friends. And as it’s the 40th anniversary, we’re looking forward to a lot of fun and some really inspiring times along the Iowa roads.”

So if you’re in the mood for some great riding, some awesome pie, maybe a pork chop or two and the cycling experience of a lifetime, come join Team LIVESTRONG for a week in Iowa you’ll never forget!  Go here to sign up for Team LIVESTRONG and RAGBRAI, and we’ll see you out on the road soon…
