A LIVESTRONG Leader Story: Logan

Through the LIVESTRONG Leader program, we engage individuals across the globe who are passionate about and committed to making cancer a priority in their own community. LIVESTRONG Leaders are vital to the success of LIVESTRONG by helping raise awareness, recruit and engage others in the LIVESTRONG movement, fundraise and advocate to their elected officials at the local, national and global level. Below is an interview from LIVESTRONG Leader Logan Allin of Los Angeles, California.

What does LIVESTRONG mean to you?
LIVESTRONG represents a strong-as-rock, supportive, and brimming with a glow of “yellow” strength organization to me, my family, and those close to me who have been impacted by Cancer. I provided support and simultaneously sought support from LIVESTRONG‘s resources, events, members, and an omnipresent yellow band on my right arm, when my father was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2007, my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008 and then when I myself was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2010. LIVESTRONG played a pivotal role in getting us through it with even greater determination and a desire to do more for others in similar circumstances.

Why are you a Leader?
I have discovered in my life that I derive ultimate happiness and personal growth and satisfaction from helping others and being able to strongly relate to something that is larger than myself – LIVESTRONG epitomizes these traits and being able to serve as a leader sincerely meets my goals in all of these respects. Further, the LIVESTRONG organization events, education/support, and public drive to raise awareness, have become a significant part of who I am and I would like to be able to meaningfully contribute back to the organization in continuing to push the issue of Cancer into the forefront of global conscious, but also in helping create and participate in actionable programs/initiatives that will drive substantive change.

What are you doing in your community?
As a new leader, genuinely looking forward to learning more – from my Senior Leader, Ginna, and the LIVESTRONG Assembly – about the myriad ways in which I can get involved in supporting LIVESTRONG locally in my community in Los Angeles and anywhere else I could potentially help on a national basis. I plan to continue to participate in the LIVESTRONG Rides throughout the country, initiate/participate in local community events, host an event on LIVESTRONG Day, and represent/support the organization in any way that I can.

LIVESTRONG!
