Team LIVESTRONG at the Austin Marathon and Half Marathon

On Sunday, under perfectly clear skies and ideal race conditions, the second annual LIVESTRONG Austin Marathon and Half Marathon took place. Among the thousands that toed the line Sunday were over 500 running with Team LIVESTRONG. As a team they have raised over $313,000 to date, an unbelievable sum. From first-timers to seasoned veterans, 5k to 26.2, these 500 dedicated individuals took on Austin’s hilly course for something far bigger than the mileage: 28 million living with cancer around the world.
And speaking of survivorship, over 250 survivors ran in this race, 50 of whom ran with Team LIVESTRONG. It’s both astonishing and inspiring to see what can happen when a group of individuals put their collective efforts toward one shared goal.
Our team was led by team captain Amy Dodson, a survivor who lost both a leg and lung to cancer in the mid-80s and was most recently seen featured on the cover of Runner’s World for a special “Outrunning Cancer” edition. The team truly embodied everything our mission stands for: inspiring and empowering those affected by cancer.
We cannot thank our runners and supporters enough for your tireless efforts on our behalf, raising funds and awareness for LIVESTRONG. We will see you next year on Sunday, February 17th for the third-annual LIVESTRONG Austin Marathon and Half Marathon or at another Team LIVESTRONG event in 2012.
