It’s finally here! The 2012 LIVESTRONG Austin Marathon is this weekend and there is so many cool things going on. Below is a 411 of the weekend’s events for all you runners and cheering fans.
The Marathon Expo and Packet Pick-Up:
All participants are required to pick up their race packet at the Health and Fitness Expo located at the Palmer Events Center in downtown Austin. The expo will be open today, Friday from 3:00pm-7:00pm and Saturday from 10:00am-6:00pm.
LIVESTRONG and LIVESTRONG Austin Marathon gear will be on sale at the expo Friday and Saturday and at the race on Sunday. Look for this trailer on Sunday at the Event Festival off of Congress between 6th and 7th street. The merchandise trailer does take credit cards; however, bring cash for the yummy local food trucks – Another awesome Austin tradition.
Where to park on Sunday:
Parking in the downtown area within walking distance of the start and finish-lines is plentiful. There are numerous free and paid parking garages and surface lots as well as free on-street parking downtown.
$7 parking will also be available at the Palmer Events Center. Due to road closures, access will be limited between 6:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. Therefore, plan to arrive at the garage before 5:30 a.m.
When to show up:
We recommend you arrive no later than 6am. The half and full marathon start at 7am, the 5k at 7:30am.
Starting line and pacing info:
The Start Line of the LIVESTRONG Austin Marathon and Half Marathon is located at 16th Street and Congress Avenue. Start time for both the Austin Marathon and the Austin Half Marathon is at 7:00am CST.
The start area is self-seeding based on the honor system. Pace signs, noting MARATHON finish goal times and pace per mile will be located throughout the start area. Pacers will also be on site holding pace signs for runners to line up near. Please seed yourself according to your expected pace or Marathon finish time to allow for the most efficient flow of runners through the Start Line. It’s raining, but central Texans ain’t complaining as we have been in a record drought. It will more than likely rain all day today and Saturday, but it is due to clear up for race day.The forecast is calling for partly cloudy with an overnight low in the mid to low 40′s and a high in the upper 60′s on race day. The race hotline is 512-476-7223 and will be updated with current information. Also, some race announcements will be made via Twitter, so follow @AustinMarathon, @TeamLIVESTRONG and @LIVESTRONG just in case.
