Movember 2011 a Huge Success!

The 2011 Moustache growing season has come and gone as Movember – the month formerly known as November – came to a close last week.  And what a month it was! Keeping in line with the agricultural theme, it was a bumper crop to say the least.  Not only did we see globally and here in the USA over 100% participation increase (853,423 participants globally/144,401 participants in the US) but funding for education and awareness, prostate cancer research, and cancer navigation doubled too ($105 Million Globally/ $13.6 Million in the US), and continues to rise – amazing!

We often say that you can find almost any way to make a difference in the fight against cancer, but I think it’s safe to say that back in 2003 when six Australian friends decided to bring back the moustache (or “Mo” in Aussie slang) they had no idea that they would create a global men’s health care movement, but that’s how Movember got started.  Much like in 1996 when the Lance Armstrong Foundation got its start, five friends sitting around a table at an Austin Tex-Mex restaurant, one of them going through cancer treatment and he said he’d like to create an organization so others wouldn’t have to endure what he was going through.

And so two young organizations continue to find ways to not only change the world, but also work together to make a huge difference throughout the world.  But there’s one key to the success and significance to both missions: you.  Without the support of those who believe in what we do, we simply could not accomplish our missions at all.  And so as Movember closes out and we roll into the holiday season, we want to say thanks to our great friends and partners at Movember, and THANKS to all of you.  You donated your time, your faces, and funds to help change the face of men’s health and had a great time along the way.  Enjoy those freshly shaved faces, Movember 2012 is just 11 months away!
