Chicago Marathon 2011

This Sunday morning some 40,000 runners will toe the line for the 35th annual Bank of America Chicago Marathon. Among them will be 165 runners donning Victory Maize and running with Team LIVESTRONG.

Regardless of what happens on the course Sunday it’s amazing to think about what a huge difference this team has made for the 28 million living with cancer around the world: you’ve given them hope, on which you can place no dollar amount.

Though I’d be remiss to not mention those dollars raised…over $218,000! This team has showed genuine zeal in their fundraising efforts, showing that this mission – to inspire and empower people affected by cancer – transcends economic climate, regional location or athletic experience.

The team represents five different countries and 27 US states. Just like the diversity of location, the team brings different stories, connections and motivations. Some are out to complete their first 26.2, others going for a personal best; some are survivors of cancer, others have never been touched. Regardless of their motivation, we are one team. What unite us are hope, courage and determination. We are more than one. We are Team LIVESTRONG.

If you’re in the Chicago area we invite you to come cheer with us. We will be just past Aid Station 10/Mile 14 at the Charity Block Party on the left side (south) of Adams near Laflin. Come on out, wear yellow and cheer your head off for our runners!

No way the team would have been this big or shattered its fundraising record without team mentor Barbara Simmons!!
