Mailbu Canyons Gran Fondo – Let’s Ride!

It’s safe to say that in the cycling world “Gran Fondo” events have taken off like wild fire here in America. Gran Fondo is an Italian phrase that has come to mean a big ride, usually separating itself from more traditional organized bike rides by increased course difficulty and an encouragement to challenge yourself, either by going strong to set a personal best time or maybe even trying to be first across the line. While they are not races per se, they often are held on the same courses as famous races or they follow well known challenging local routes to test the legs of the peloton.
We here at LIVESTRONG are proud to partner with the Malibu Canyons Gran Fondo being held very soon, Sunday, October 30, 2011. This is going to be a really special day of riding and fun, leaving from the amazing Saddlerock Ranch winery in the scenic hills of Malibu, California and then returning back for a well deserved after party right there at the winery.
Riders can choose from several ride lengths: the Gran Fondo – 65 miles and 6,800 ft of climbing, the Medio Fondo at 40 miles, or the Piccolo Fondo at 17 miles. The registration is a very affordable $50 and includes a commemorative T-shirt, ride support, and of course the after party, and you can bring your significant others at no addition charge! Did I mention they’ll also have some classic local grub (food for sale), courtesy of the fine folks at In ‘N Out, Border Grill, King Cone Ice Cream and some well earned beverages?..
This is another great example of our Grassroots Program, taking what people love to do and are successful at and making it significant. If you’re a rider in the southern California area, we’d love to have you come out, challenge yourself, have a great time and help support the 28M people around the world living with cancer in the process. I know I’m looking forward to being there, hope you’ll be there too!
