Honoring 9/11 the LIVESTRONG Way

This weekend, Americans will be reflecting on the 10 years that have passed since the 9/11 tragedy. Services, memorials, and marches will be held across the country to honor those heroes and the healing that has had to take place over the last decade.
At LIVESTRONG, I?ve learned that moments like this need to be met with empowerment and inspiration. In fact, I saw the 10th anniversary of 9/11 as an opportunity to do something really different so I jumped at the chance to spearhead a team of LIVESTRONG athletes through a one-of-a-kind event called the Civilian Military Combine.
Our team, comprised of a green beret (Read Micheal’s Story), 2 Texas National Guardsmen, and a cancer survivor, among others will take on this challenge alongside our nation?s police, fire, EMS, and active duty military. What better way to honor those who are serving our country than to sweat and endure 4 judged lifting events followed by a 7 mile mountain run with 7 obstacles?! In addition to honoring the 10th anniversary of 9/11, our Team LIVESTRONG-CMC team has raised both funds and awareness for the fight against cancer from Texas to North Carolina and New York. They?ve shared stories of survivorship, demonstrated a fighting spirit, and promoted LIVESTRONG resources throughout their communities. It?s an amazing testament to sense of community and camaraderie that has come out of such a horrific event and I?m honored to be a part of the event this weekend.
