Through the LIVESTRONG Leader program, we engage individuals across the globe who are passionate about and committed to making cancer a priority in their own community. LIVESTRONG Leaders are vital to the success of LIVESTRONG by helping raise awareness, recruit and engage others in the LIVESTRONG movement, fundraise and advocate to their elected officials at the local, national and global level. Below is an interview from LIVESTRONG Leader Ahsan Javaid from Pakistan.

LIVESTRONG for me means a life in face of death, it means rain in drought, it means strength in pain, and it means light in darkness. I am fortunate that I became part of LIVESTRONG in 2006, Yes!, It was 5yrs back I was sitting in a café and one of my friend from US has arrived and we were discussing about future prospects that suddenly my eye caught a ?Yellow band? on his right hand and with that my journey kicked in with LIVESTRONG which led to me being selected a global leader last year.

Lance’s story is amazing. It was like he was a hero who beat the villain ?Cancer?, but Grandpa couldn?t fight this monster, way back in 1991, he was diagnosed with cancer, I was 5 at that time, everything changed, his health deteriorated, he wasn?t the same anymore, his sparkling eyes lost their spark and one day I lost my grandpa. Though then there weren?t any cancer facilities in Pakistan , while now facilities has improved but still it?s almost 100 years behind western society, so there is a lot to be done here.

I m part of LIVESTRONG because I want to bring hope in people eyes when they are facing the cancer illness , help them on emotional level, give them strength and I have organized few events on small scale to raise awareness in my university , which brought is great support. I want to be part of this LIVESTRONG till I live, because then I?ll be able to make other people life better doing so.
