The Boston Marathon: Starring Team LIVESTRONG

On Monday, the world?s oldest annual marathon continued its rich tradition with another exciting race. Among the nearly 27,000 participants were 29 Team LIVESTRONG runners from 13 states across the US.
Steeped in history, the 115th annual running of the race was record-setting. Two men ran the fastest marathons ever recorded, and LIVESTRONG supporter Joan Benoit Samuelson?s 29-year-old American female course record was taken down. With a strong tailwind, many runners were propelled through the notoriously hilly course from Hopkinton to Boston en route to the noisy finish in Copley Square.
In many ways a race is merely the celebration of hard work already put in; on Monday our team showed their dedication one by one, traversing the streets in their Victory Maize, drawing energy from the crowds and running for something so much bigger than the mileage: 28 million living with cancer around the world.
Each brought with him a connection; each had her own story. They don?t live in the same cities, but together they are one. United by hope, courage and determination, they are Team LIVESTRONG.
I was humbled to watch as one of the half million spectators, our runners pushing through the hills and wind. As a team they have crested $63,000, an amazing sum for an equally amazing group of individuals.
Thank you all for your dedication to our mission. Without our tireless advocates we would not be the global movement we are today. Our roots are founded in activism and your efforts through the streets of Boston were proof of this devotion.
