Young Adults Break Cancer

Each year, nearly 70,000 young adults between the ages of 15 and 39 are diagnosed with cancer. In contrast to those younger and older, survival rates for young adults have not increased since 1975. To discuss the burden of Young Adults with Cancer we are observing the National Young Adult Cancer Awareness Week April 3-9.

LIVESTRONG created an alliance called the LIVESTRONG Young Adult Alliance where we partner with over 160 organizations to raise awareness and offer support to young adults affected by cancer. Each day this week we will be exploring topics that are unique to young adults with cancer including infertility, bills and insurance, school and work as well as dealing with family and friends.

Along with these topics, we will be raising awareness of YA cancer survivors with the Break Cancer campaign. Break Cancer, along with our friends at URDB World Records, is a phenomenon. Hundreds of groups have broken records from “Most People to Sing I Will Survive in Honor of Cancer Survivors” to “The Most People to say Beat Cancer in Chinese”. The records are silly, irreverent and fun, but most of all- raising the awareness of young adult cancer survivors. Below are a few records set at South by Southwest this year. Want to set a record? Submit to urdb.org/breakcancer and let us know in the comments below.
