A Match Made in Austin

by

This Sunday, the streets of Austin will be painted yellow at the LIVESTRONG Austin Marathon and Half Marathon as we kick off our season of 2011 Team LIVESTRONG events. In its 20th year, Austin welcomes LIVESTRONG as the new title sponsor as well as its largest field of runners yet.

Here?s this year?s marathon story by the numbers:

1 Joan Benoit Samuelson, Nike athlete and LIVESTRONG Global Envoy will be taking on the half marathon
17 LIVESTRONG staffers will be lacing up their sneakers to run
270 survivors will conquer 13.1 or 26.2
500 Team LIVESTRONG runners will don their yellow Team LIVESTRONG jerseys and take to the streets
and an amazing $320,000 has been raised for the fight against cancer by the Team LIVESTRONG runners

This race is an amazing opportunity to show the Austin community how strong the support is for the 28 million cancer survivors worldwide, including the incredible 270 survivors who are running on Sunday.  If you?re looking for a good spot to watch all the action and show your support on race day, join us at our two designated cheer stations:

  1. We will be cheering at mile 18 at Foster and Great Northern or
  2. Come be a part of the Yellow Mile cheering extravaganza at mile 9, located at Cesar Chavez and BR Reynolds. We recommend parking north or south of Lamar and looking for yellow when you cross the bridge.

Most importantly, don?t forget to wear yellow! Good luck, runners, see you on Sunday.
