Imagine a World Without Cancer

Today is World Cancer Day-a day to raise awareness for a disease that affects 28 million people worldwide and causes 8 million deaths every year, one-third of which could have been prevented. Today we are focusing on how we can reduce stigma, improve access to care and prevent the unnecessary suffering from cancer. Here are a few things you can do today to show your support:

  • Take the World Cancer Day quiz and share it with your friends on Facebook, Email or Twitter.

  • Share your cancer story with others in person or on our Facebook page.

  • Watch and share these videos about the global cancer burden.

  • Sign up to be a LIVESTRONG volunteer, to be a grassroots advocate or take part in a Team LIVESTRONG event.

Whatever you do today to observe World Cancer Day, remember the 28 million affected by cancer, those fighting and those we’ve lost.

We have an antistigma campaign running now in South Africa and several partner orgs on the ground in many countries. It is our hope that if we reduce the stigma we will in turn get more people in for screenings earlier. Along with early detection we are advocating for accessible treatments. We need to end the needless suffering!
