Making a Difference in 2010: Advocacy
by Brooke McMillan3 Comments
2010 was a big year for the advocacy side of the house here at LIVESTRONG. Our advocacy team focuses on building a community of cancer advocates all over the world to raise awareness of cancer in local communities and to champion for change in policy effecting survivors. Here are some of the accomplishments and a look forward to 2011.
In 2010 LIVESTRONG:
? Added over 500,000 new members to the LIVESTRONG community
? Actively advocated for the successful passage of the Affordable Care Act
? As part of the Smoke Free TX coalition, we contributed to the successful passage of Smoke Free San Antonio
? Through our membership and support of the One Voice Against Cancer Coalition, we were able to protect current funding levels for federal cancer research and programs.
? Coordinated more than 1100 events, in 65 countries on LIVESTRONG Day
? LIVESTRONG Leaders contributed more than 5,000 hours of service to supporting those with cancer
? We Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT)
? Aggressively expand our online resources and opportunities to support the LIVESTRONG mission
? Continue to host LIVESTRONG Day in 2011 and expand its reach worldwide
We would not be able to maintain these efforts without your support. Please consider a tax deductible donation to LIVESTRONG this year so that we may continue to make a difference in the cancer community in 2011.
