The goal is to help patients build muscle mass and muscle strength, increase flexibility and endurance, and improve functional ability. Additional goals include reducing the severity of therapy side effects, preventing unwanted weight changes, and improving energy levels and self esteem. A final goal of the program is to assist participants in developing their own physical fitness program so they can continue to practice a healthy lifestyle, not only as part of their recovery, but as a way of life.

Certified YMCA fitness instructors give personal individualized instruction to the participants. The instructors are trained in the elements of cancer, post rehab exercise and supportive cancer care.

The fitness venture is really appreciating and also valuable. One of my friend live in Austin and underwent this training recently to get rid off all the physical fatigues and hazards. Thanks for the program.

This is a wonderful idea. However, the hours aren’t great for those of us who are trying to work or have continued to work. I realize the Y is supporting the program during their off times, but is there a way to have a program that also works for those of us with jobs?

Woot! My husband and I are both in the Austin program. He has lung cancer. Thanks to Livestrong he’s in sweat pants for first time in 36 years! And I’m grinning from ear to ear. Thank you 28 million times!

My best regards, Patti P. AKA Allie D.
