“Hello and Thank You” from the staff of LIVESTRONG. The past week Doug Ulman, LIVESTRONG CEO; Andy Miller, VP of Mission; Allison Wright, Director of Stewardship; Rebekkah Schear, International Program Manager;and Devon McGoldrick, Senior Manager of Programs and Partnerships, traveled to Shenzhen China to participate in the International Union Cancer Control (UICC) Global Cancer Congress.
The UICC is the leading international non-governmental organization dedicated to the global prevention and control of cancer. UICC?s mission is to connect, mobilize and support organizations, leading experts, key stakeholders and volunteers in a dynamic community working together to eliminate cancer as a life- threatening disease for future generations.
American Cancer Society and LIVESTRONG released a joint report on the economic impact of cancer on the world. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) projections, this year, cancer will become the world’s leading cause of death, followed by heart disease and stroke. This critical and timely new joint analysis, shows that cancer has the greatest economic impact from premature death and disability of all causes of death worldwide.
We also congratulate Doug on his appointment to the UICC’s Board of Directors. This is an amazing honor for Doug and for the Foundation as we will have the ability to create real change through global policy work.
Below is a video from Doug announcing the new study and explaining the future of our partnership with UICC and the WHO.
We fight to improve the lives of people affected by cancer
