The Register’s Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI) is in full effect. Over 100 members of Team LIVESTRONG are cycling across the state with 20,000 of their closest friends, sharing stories and having a great time with one another. Each night, a cancer survivor stands up in front of the group and shares his/her cancer story. Yesterday it was Mary’s turn to share.
Mary and her 18 year old son David have had difficult cancer experiences. Mary’s- breast. David’s- a rare type of cancer called Myelodysplastic Syndrome found mainly in people 65-70 years old. The only option for a cure for David is a bone marrow transplant. After a long fruitless search, Mary and family were inspired to start their own marrow drive organization called David’s Donors. Their work continues to this day. Listen to Mary’s story and the story of her son David. Please feel free to leave words of encouragement for their family on the comments section of our blog.
We fight to improve the lives of people affected by cancer
