Dr. Harold Varmus Named Director of NCI

Today Harold Varmus was named Director of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and we at LIVESTRONG applaud his selection. Dr. Varmus has devoted his life to the fight against cancer - as a scientist, public servant, and leader of one of our nation?s premier cancer centers. As a Nobel laureate and former Director of the National Institutes of Health, his background and experience will strengthen the NCI?s ability to fulfill President Obama?s challenge to seek a ?cure for cancer in our time.? We look forward to a strong partnership between the cancer advocacy community, the scientific sector and federal leadership to reduce the toll taken by the world?s leading cause of death.
