What's on Your Bucket List?

by

You may have seen the movie “The Bucket List” with Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman. Two terminally ill men meet while in cancer treatment and decide to mark off all the things they ever wanted to do in their lives- before they “kick the bucket”. The pair embarks on an around-the-world vacation, embarking on race car driving, skydiving, climbing the Pyramids, and going on a lion safari in Africa. They also try to repair relationships. The premise of this movie got a lot of people thinking about what they would put on their “Bucket List”-including me. I’ve always been facinated by the idea of this list. I think it its a great way to get to know people and understand what is important to them. This morning I asked our online communities and LIVESTRONG staffers what they would put on their bucket list. Here are some of the responses:

Attend the Oscar Awards
Snowboard all around Europe
Save a life
Visit all of the US National Parks
Build a House
Write a Book
Meet Lance and ride with him
See the pyramids
Summit Mt. Everest
Become a 49ers Gold Rush Cheerleader
Do work for LIVESTRONG
Bike across America
Chase a tornado
skydive, skydive, skydive
Finish a triathlon
See the Statue of Liberty
Meet all my online LIVESTRONG buddies
Be on American idol (hopefully not the outtakes)
Learn how to fly fish
Get yellow jersey status at LIVESTRONG Challenge
Swim in a cage with sharks

So, obviously we can’t help you reach your goal of becoming a pro-football cheerleader or swim with sharks, but there are some things that were mentioned above that we can help you mark off your list. We have been given the amazing privilege of guaranteed spots in several coveted sporting events this year. If your goal was to run a marathon, half marathon, finish a triathlon, ride your bike long distance, meet your online LIVESTRONG friends, do work for LIVESTRONG, save a life, and possibly meet Lance, then we can help. Become part of Team LIVESTRONG and take part in the following:

NYC Half Marathon: March 21st
Monaco Challenge: March 21st
Boston Marathon: April 19th registration is closing soon.
Country Music Rock n’ Roll Marathon (Nashville)Pittsburgh Marathon: May 2nd

LIVESTRONG Challenges, which include either a 5/10K and a multi-distance ride up to 100 miles, is our signature event series. If you fundraise up to a certain level you can actually take part in a private ride with Lance. Currently there is a discount for all registration fees. Go take advantage of that today! Seattle Challenge is June 19-20, San Jose Challenge is July 10-11, Philly Challenge is August 21-22 and Austin Challenge is October 23-24.

1)Continue to have great patience & a positive attitude
    2)Be open minded to others
3)Just do the simple things, enjoy activities (especially singletrack mtb with Gerry!) & hanging out with family & friends as that’s what matters most to me these days
4)Continue to treat my healthcare providers the way I want to be treated, with kindness, patience & respect!
    5)Continue my volunteer work

I know these aren’t extravagant list items but I got to do some cool stuff (2 women’s pro tours of inline skating, played ice hockey in a men’s league, traveled a little) before the cancers & now I just enjoy taking 1 day @ a time, enjoying those positive & helpful people that I surround myself with. Not matter what. it’s all good!
-Best wishes & positive vibes to all! -Susan

If I knew I only had a little time, my Bucket List would have a theme: From Warm Hands.

    1) I’d make sure my will, living will and related paperwork were in order (Seriously, I could be hit while riding a bike this afternoon. So buttoned up the details.
    2) I’d write letters to my family members, including letters that I’d like my children to read on special occasions like weddings, turning points in their lives, and parenthood. Those would be tucked in with my will.
3)I’d make sure my family and friends knew I’d love a visit.
    4) I’d compile some of my stories with photos I’ve taken and create a few photobooks.
    5) I’d throw myself back into an old hobby and make a quilt for each of my children. From my hands to theirs. On each quilt I’d write the following poem that I say to them every night: “I love you more than sunshine. I love you more than the breath I take. I love you more than the heart that beats in me. My babies, I love you more than anything.”
    6) I’d love to have lunch with all the men and women that I ran cross country with in high school so we can share stories all day about our old coach and joke all afternoon. We’d make sure Ray’s sons were there.
    7) One giant family reunion. For me that is about 100 people. Quite frankly that would be really cool if it was at a LiveSTRONG Challenge, because it would help close a circle that brought us to LiveSTRONG in the first place. 8) I’d make sure everyone knew my special charities. I’d ask them simply that if they miss me or think of me then to please do something kind for someone else. Help out. Give back.
    9) I’d spend time in churches that have been a part of my life and have lunch with the priests.
    10) I’d make sure that my family and friends knew my life was all about the joy that happened in moments every day, not the way it ends.

Now that I’ve written my Top 10, I think I’ll print this out. Have a good day, Everyone.

I plan to continue to follow any and all dreams I have. To create a list would be slightly organized and compulsive of me….so maybe one day I’ll make the list—I’d hate to forget to put on my list things I’ve yet to discover! So maybe that’s the first thing on the list: discover something new.
    Be Well!
