Navigating the Healthcare System: A conference for patient educators

The overall goal of this conference is to equip oncology nurses, social workers and peer patient navigators to teach the Navigating the Healthcare System Workshop to their clients and family caregivers.
This conference introduces patient educators to a 4-session educational workshop and curriculum for cancer survivors and family caregivers entitled ?Navigating the Health Care System.? The ?Navigating the Healthcare System? workshop, developed by the Education in Palliative and End-of-Life Care (EPEC) Project in conjunction with the LIVESTRONG, addresses healthcare system navigation and basic communication skills for newly diagnosed cancer patients and their family caregivers. Curricular materials were developed by an interdisciplinary group of educators and clinicians with input from focus groups of survivors, patients, and family caregivers.
At the Conference participants will:
? Receive instruction by an interdisciplinary team (nurse, social worker, physician)
? Learn in a highly interactive, small group environment
? Receive take-home teaching materials (Curriculum, handouts, cases, slides and clinical vignettes on DVD)
? Develop plans to tailor the prepared workshop to participant-specific educational settings
? Receive a certificate upon completion and ongoing teaching support
? Receive 3.5 Continuing Education Units.
Conference Fee:
Early Registration: $50 before Oct 5th
Regular Registration: $75 after Oct 5th
