Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan?s $300 Million Commitment to Cancer

by

Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan has made a significant new commitment to cancer control as part of the LIVESTRONG Global Cancer Campaign, an initiative to address the burden of cancer worldwide. The five-year, $300 million commitment from Jordan will fund three important cancer control initiatives ? building a cutting-edge cancer treatment and research facility, developing a national cancer control plan and creating an Office of Advocacy and Survivorship.

The King Hussein Institute of Biotechnology and Cancer (KHIBC), named in honor of Jordan?s former leader who died of cancer in 1999, will create 280 new cancer/critical care beds in Jordan, supply the complete range of inpatient and outpatient care and establish a research and development facility in the Middle East. The Jordanian Cancer Control Plan will focus on a population-wide approach to cancer prevention and treatment. The Office of Advocacy and Survivorship will focus on the spirit of volunteerism, patient awareness and survivorship and will unite patient support groups toward higher causes of education.
