LIVESTRONG Advocates Make their Presence Known at White House Summit in Iowa

Several weeks ago the White House Announced that there would be a series of town hall style forums around the country to discuss the issue of healthcare reform. The first of these was to take place in Iowa, which is a state the Lance Armstrong Foundation has a long history with. We were fortunate enough that two of our long-time advocates were able to make the journey to Des Moines to attend the Summit on our behalf.
Josh Larsen and Amy Mattes have been advocates, fundraisers and supporters of the Foundation for many years, and they certainly didn?t disappoint this time. They donned their bright yellow shirts and made sure that people noticed them at the forum. Enough so that at the end of the forum, Governor Culver actually called on Josh to ask him if he?d like to say anything. Josh said something so simple, yet so powerful. He asked the crowd for a show of hands of people that have been affected by cancer, almost every single hand went up. Josh stated that we need to keep cancer at the forefront of the healthcare debate and the room agreed.

People ask me all the time, “What is Grassroots Advocacy”? Plain and simple, this is grassroots, two individuals taking time out of their day to make a difference in the war on cancer.
