LIVESTRONG Throws a College Party!

As part of our ongoing work in adolescent and young adult oncology, the LAF is working with 11 colleges across the U.S. to learn about young adult perceptions of cancer. We are going to be visiting college campuses, giving out information about the LAF, and asking students to tell us about their knowledge and perceptions of cancer. The information we collect will be used to inform the development of educational materials and future outreach efforts for this population and the healthcare providers that serve them.

Our project kicked off yesterday at the University of Denver. We?d like to thank everyone at DU for being such great hosts and we offer congratulations to Jessica who won the drawing for a LIVESTRONG Challenge messenger bag!

    Oh my God please come to Bridgewater State College in Massachusetts! I am the Survivorship Chair for our Relay for Life committee and I trying so hard to get my peers educated about cancer. I am hosting a Cancer Education session the Tuesday before our Relay on March 24th. I don’t want my peers to have to go through what I had to go through as a child.

    We’re a small state school but I really want my peers to educate themsleves so this doesn’t happen to them. I’m done with my battle but, I still fight so no one else will have to face a battle like I did 19 years ago. Thank you for doing this,

    It’s so much easier to go to hold an event at a wealthy private school like DU. The press coverage is better.

    We have a great program in Wisconsin at the University of Wisconsin Hospital led by Dr. Paul Carbone. Biking is #1 in Madison Wi and you would welcomed here beyond belief.

    DU threw an amazing grassroots LIVESTRONG Day in 2008. Our grassroots team chose them as one of the special “fly by” events for Lance to attend. All the schools for this current event were chosen to get a diverse sampling- public, private, community college, etc. There was no press coverage, other than it being announced in the “happenings” column of the student newspaper and, of course, this blog post.

    This sounds like a great program. The University of Kansas and the KU Cancer Center would love to welcome the LAF to Kansas, a key battleground state in the fight against cancer!

    The University of Wisconsin La Crosse would LOVE to have you. I am a resident assistant here and our school takes a ton of pride in our involvement and fitness level (we are the 7th most fit campus in the nation). I feel that statistic shows how the student body at UWL is dedicated to living a healthy lifestyle and promoting health and wellness around the community. As a result of that, fundraisers and programs for all health related topics especially cancer go over extremely well here. Having you guys come would not only be an honor but the response to this would be overwhelming with people participating!!!

    The United States Air Force Academy would be honored!! Coverage would be all over. We are a school dedicated to excellence in all we do. Please come!

    The University of Michigan in Ann Arbor would be a great spot to visit. The YMCA in AA is part of the LAF-Y pilot program, Mott Children’s Hosp is a past recipient of LAF funds, the community is very supportive and there’s a LSC mentor who lives nearby.

    Even though I’m a Michigan State supporter, ya gotta give props when due. Ann Arbor would be a great stop.
