R.I.P. Paul Newman

by

We are sad to hear that Paul Newman lost his battle to cancer last night. Our thoughts and prayers go to his family and friends.

Newman was a hero in the world of philanthropy and his Newman’s Own brand and Hole in the Wall Gang Camp serve as models for all of us trying to make a difference in the lives of others.

I woke up this morning to see that the world had lost a great, great man to this disease . I hesitate to use the word lost, as this man lived a full, spectacular life and his legecy of love, compassion, and zest for life and for his fellow man will live on for years to come. Not only through the brillance of his films, but for his almost unequaled efforts to help others . His tireless work helping children with cancer through his Newmans own ,and many times on a personal level , He was always helping someone. Many times, those he helped didn’t even know it. His help for others was not for attention or publicity, it was because it was his heart and soul and who he was as a person. He didn’t just raise money, he got in there

From helping his town and world be a better place , to giving actors an outlet to further their skills, to the race track , where even after his diagnosis and being in his 80′s ,he would still get into a race car and was able to zip around the track as well as anyone , 40-50 years younger than he. If you asked him to take you around the track,he would do it . It was another passion of his . He mastered everything that he set out to do. Yes, he really did learn to shoot pool and there was no double for the shots.

Back in high school, I was lucky to have had the opportunity to meet him and his wife Joanne during the filming of “Absence of Malice” in Miami and once again during ” Harry and Son” . The first thing that struck me was his height, but his eyes …. Never seen that brillant blue in any other person. Despite the few years between the two films, he would remember your name. Years later when I became involved in Road Racing, he still would remember your name. That always amazed me. If someone was injured at the track, or needed something for their car, he was one who would help without question.

Through his years of work, his efforts to help people with cancer, and other illnesses will continue for yers to come.

My heart goes out to Joanne and the rest of his family .While he wil be missed , I know that that they and many, will celebrate the full life that he lived.

This great Ohio son, great American, and champion for those who suffer and are in need , is a model of LiveStrong, and is an example of what one person can do for the world and will not be forgotten.
