Happy Birthday Lance

by

We wanted to take a quick moment to wish Lance a happy birthday on behalf of all the LAF staff. He is 37 today, which in a weird twist of fate means he was born in the same year that President Nixon declared war on cancer.

If you would like to wish Lance a happy birthday leave a comment below and we will make sure he reads them all.

  • http://www.willsride.com Will

    Lance,
I wish you a very happy birthday, surrounded by all the people that you love and that love you. I hope this next year will bring you all you hope for, but not only in your fight against cancer and the beautiful project you have in mind: the racing combined with you asking global attention for this disease. I know the message is the important part for you but winning an eight…. But more than that I wish you a very happy personal life: you deserve all the happiness in the world. LiveStrong, Annemieke

happy birthday hope you have a good one . keep living the dream

  • Barney Holbeche

Happy Birthday, Lance! Excellent news about your return to professional cycling -for the sport, for the battle against cancer, and for you! One thought. Although the Tour de France is the premiere event, and I appreciate the challenge you are taking on, but please do consider riding the Giro and the Vuelta over next two or three years too – as they are top class too, they have their own character and culture and you would be warmly welcomed in Italy and Spain, you should join Alberto (when he wins the Vuelta on Sunday!)and the others to become the sixth three grand tours winner – but most of all consider the boost to your admirable cancer campaign amongst the latin world! Good luck and best wishes for ’09, I will be in Monaco to watch the start. Barney (long-standing Brit fan).

    Lanca,

I just turned 37 on the 11th and we are in this fight together. You are my inspiration in helping my Mom beat her pancreatic cancer. She was given 3-4 months to live and that was almost 2 years ago. Your story is living proof what determination and the will to live can do. I am going to see you speak on November 8th in Orlando, you are my hero.
    Happy Birthday!!
    Bill

  • Ben

Hi Lance it’s me. I hope you had fun at that race. We were there [Leadville] and watched you. Second place is really good too. And Lance, you are my favorite guy and you are the BEST.

Happy birthday. Have a lot of cake and I hope you have a really good time.

  • Jere Carpentier

Cheers to the years Lance!! As a fellow cancer survivor, each year is a gift…and as the number raises…the bigger the gift! We were meant to be here and do what we can to help others on this journey..and hopefully eradicate this disease in our lifetime. Celebrate the difference you are making in so many lives…including yours!!
    Happy Birthday!
    Jere Carpentier

  • Nick

  • Pat Barkwood

Hi Lance, Happy Birthday! I hope you rec’d. the B’day card I sent you with a note about my husband fighting a rare form of cancer called Merkel Cell Carcinoma. You are an inspiration in the fight against cancer – and now global.
Good Luck in the 09 tour!
    God Bless!

  • Adrian Tonks

G’day from Sydney Australia, Lance and Happy Birthday!

I’m currently in my first cycle of BEP chemo for testicular cancer, and (as was the case with you) the first cycle hasn’t knocked me around too much. My surgery was 2 yrs ago and blood tests/CTs were all clear…until a month ago.

“It’s Not About The Bike” has been a great source of inspiration to me, and I feel positive that I’ll get through this.

It was fantastic to hear about your comeback, and hope you can make it over here for the Tour Down Under. I’m also looking forward to watching you and Cadel go head to head in Le Tour 09. Should be a great race.

Cheers mate, would love to hear from ya.

  • Doug Archer

Lance… I am a prostate cancer survivor. Like you, I am making another athletic comeback by running the Chicago Marathon on October 12th. I am 61 years old; my last marathon was Boston 1996 (100th year anniversary): I last did Chicago in 1988 (20 years ago). I tell you this not to brag, but rather to punctuate your great example that all of us are capable of achieving more if we just believe in ourselves and work hard. God bless you on your birthday. I will tell Jim Hoyt hello the next time I see him at the BikeMart.

  • Doug Archer

p.s. Jim and Rhonda sold me my first Cannondale in 1984 when their store was further south on Coit.

  • Andy

Happy Birthday Lance. We share the same birthday. Thank you for inspiring me to get back on the bike.

  • Aria Sungkono

We hope to see you in Australia for the Tour Downunder.

Happy Birthday Lance, while 37 is just a number, it remains a milestone for you since beating cancer. Wishing you continued superb health and superior fitness to crush your cycling opponents! I am looking forward to hearing the details of your return to the peloton on the 24th. As a fellow cancer survivor and cyclist, you continue to inspire me and countless thousands – to quote Winston Churchill “Never, never, never quit”. Aloha and Livestrong, Denis Muller

  • Alex Howe

    Lance,

I know I just left a comment, but I have to post again! Your birthday got me thinking about when I will turn 37 in four years, and it dawned on me that it’ll be my 5 year remission “rebirthday” from my cancer that year. Granted, I just hit my 1st year cancer-free, BUT, now I am looking forward to 37, too! Sounds like a vintage year to me! CURES ROCK. Thanks, Lance…and again, Happy Birthday!

  • kim

happy birthday Mellow Johnny and please come to Georgia and save our race …thanks from Canton,Ga.

  • http://www.livestrong.org Pru

Happy birthday Lance!!! I threw a birthday party in your honor today! It was a lot of fun! We had a cake made with all yellow frosting that said Happy Birthday Lance, we ate off of bright yellow plates, we had party favors that were in yellow bags and everything inside was yellow, yellow birthday balloons, we played a game and made tee shirts that said “just call us LANCE because you don’t stand a chance!” As you can see you missed a GREAT party!!! Maybe we’ll see you next year! :)
Happy Birthday and good luck with everything and the 09′ tour!!!!:)

  • Darren Cook

Happy Birthday, Lance! As a literacy and math teacher, my 9 years of teaching the “Lance Armstrong Unit” has inspired a thousand kids to get on the bike and off their butt. For others it helped them deal with family crises surrounding cancer. You are truly a inspiration to our generation. AS you pass through Grand Junction on your way to Aspen, know you have touched a lot of lives here.

  • Michelle Crisp

Lance: Wishing you a blessed day. I am a two-time breast cancer survivor and cannot express what an inspiration you are to me and millions of others. Thank you for just being you – a wonderfully gifted athlete – but, more importantly, a solitary beacon of strength and light to those that have traveled the dark path that cancer forces you to walk. I LiveStrong in gratitude.
    Happy Birthday!

Happy 37th, Lance. I was so glad to hear that you will be back for the Tour — Oh, God — another thing for poor Greg to get upset over! Now he’s going to have to sue the Tour too! Another note: In case you missed my fabulous Livestrong.com video, I decided to go very prim and proper at this week’s Ryder Cup — and am happy to say that I will be there yet again, watching the pros for the final round of play on Sunday! Life is so good. I wanted to tell you that I was wearing my Livestrong bracelet as were so many others there including the sponsor for our company. I was so thrilled to see that — Livestrong is everywhere and alive because of you! BTW — will you conquer the Mount Ventoux this time?? “Le Mount Ventoux ne tolere pas le surregime, n’est pas?” How’s that for incentive, Mellow Johnny?

    Sincerely,

Hi Lance, hope you had a very happy Birthday.
You have been a huge inspiration to me and my son Freddie in our lives, and in our cycling, which I took up again for the first time since childhood as I was gripped by your comeback in 1999.
We’re really looking forward to your latest comeback though kind of hoping you might take on some of the challenges – Paris Roubaix, the Giro, maybe even the Veulta – that you sacrificed your chances in to dominate the Tour, rather than gunning for an eigth Tour win.
Whatever you do, we’ll routing and hollering for you by the roadside and from our home in Brighton, Sussex in the UK.
Support and gratitude always, Peter and Freddie Evans. :@)

    Dear Lance,
I hope you had a wonderful birthday. I’m sure you enjoy every minute of every day, after all that you have been through. I wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart for writing your book on your experience with testicular cancer. I read it twice, cover to cover, and shed many tears while reading it; it hit close to home, for my husband was diagnosed with testicular cancer, stage 2b, in June of this year. He unfortunately went into kidney failure after receiving contrast for a CT to check for a dental abscess after his first cycle of chemo, so his course has been anything but easy. Luckily, his kidneys returned to normal after three weeks, and he did finish his four cycles of etoposide and cisplatin. Thanks to you, I am leaving with my husband in an hour to visit your friend, Dr. Larry Einhorn, and his associate, Dr. Foster, to consult regarding surgery for residual masses; hopefully, all that remains is scar tissue or teratoma. I felt I needed to thank you before I go; your book taught me the value of doing my research and being an advocate for him. I cannot tell you the relief I feel to know he will now be in the best of hands. What you are also doing to raise awareness of the need for cancer research and the changes you have made to your life show us the amazing good that can come from something as devastating as a cancer diagnosis. When I return from Indiana, I am interviewing for a nursing job in research at the Medical College of Wisconsin, so I hope I can make my mark on the world of research, as well.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I wish you the most happiness.

    Hi Lance,

    BELATED BIRTHDAY WISHES!!

We are very happy to see you back on your bike.I would like to share a small thing with you my friend.

I was totally depressed when i lost me love life for a few reasons. I was totally blank and the entire world seemed nothing to me. I dint want to live anymore without a smile on my face. Totally buried in my sorrows, i was searching for something which can help me divert my mind out of my sorrows. My friend suggested to read your book.. It was at that time I started reading that book and to be honest I was totally blowed away by your wish to die flying down from the Alps if at all you had to die… This sentence alone pumped me and motivated to die like an hero.I read your books and now i am proud to say that I ahve a new meaning for life now. I have decided to live and struggle for happiness. Happiness of others. Strive for the smile on other’s face. This is what I have learnt from you. Thanks Lance.. I have never met you. But I am sure, I wont miss the chance of meeting you once I am in the states.

Thanks for such an inspiring story and a book.Long live Lance.. All the best..

    Srini..

    Lance-

To be honest I was a little worried when I heard you were returning to cycling (because of the possibility of tainting the legacy). After reading the interview you did with that Austin journalist I realized, “He’s back!” There’s no longer any ounce of doubt in my mind! You will forever be remembered as a man who would not accept anything less than the best out of himself and everyone around him. Making cancer a global priority is a cause that needs you and I’m sure you will not disappoint.

Thank you so much for all that you do. Like millions of other people, you have inspired me in ways you can’t even imagine. I can’t wait to see you take on the Tour and blow it apart…again. Best wishes!

    Lance,
Happy Belated Birthday! Hope it was a great one.

I just happened to read your book back in December 2007. I was SO inspired. I am lucky in that I have not ever lost anyone close to me to cancer. However within a two year span I buried my Dad and a son. Devastating beyond words. Your words have kept me going. I have since lost 15 pounds, organized a LiveSTRONG Day event, joined the LivesTRONG ARMY, and held a fundraiser for the American Heart Association. Thanks for reminding me not just to live, but to LIVESTRONG!!! Looking forward to seeing you win the Tour!

Hi Lance, Happy belated birthday. I feel a connection to you. I have stageIV colon cancer and one day when you were at Dana Farber about six months ago I was in the waiting room on Dana 10 and you were in the infusion room. When I went in for my infusion my nurse said that I just missed you. Thank you for all you do and the global initiative is just awesome. Best of luck in your upcoming races.

Happy Birthday, Lance and congratulations on all the good you are doing in the world. We need more “leaders” such as youself now more than ever.
I’ve been in the same places as you over the years ( DC and Atlanta) but never had the nerve to approach you directly. You are so high energy and always seem to be focused and busy, but I’m sorry I didnt because I have great respect for what you have done and are doing and want you to hear that from me. Next time, I’ll extend my hand and tell you face to face.
