Larry King Live and Stand Up 2 Cancer

People ask us all the time how they can get involved in the fight against cancer. Here’s a perfect opportunity to make your voice heard. Tonight at 9pm ET, CNN’s Larry King Live will feature guests from a great organization, Stand Up to Cancer. Lance will be participating in the actual event taking place on September 8th. 1. Under President Bush, federal resources for the fight against cancer have been stagnant. The Lance Armstrong Foundation recently hosted a Presidential Town Hall on this topic so voters could hear directly from the candidates. What are your assessments of how Sen. Obama and Sen. McCain have committed to furthering the war against this disease?

2. Non-profit groups like the Lance Armstrong Foundation have spent years lobbying on Capitol Hill for more attention to this disease. How can Americans do their part to influence Congress to place more resources into the war against cancer?

3. There’s a huge focus on cancer research but in many cases, it’s access to treatment that determines life or death for cancer survivors. For example, the Lance Armstrong Foundation frequently reminds people that minorities and poor people in America are far more likely to die from cancer because often, they simply don’t have access to treatment. Shouldn’t access be front and center in any discussion about beating this disease?

4. Cancer survivors can tell you that while their physical symptoms are treated, the other effects of cancer are often ignored. Cancer affects your personal and professional life, your family, and the way you view the world. Groups like the Lance Armstrong Foundation put a big emphasis on the idea of survivorship with the LIVESTRONG concept. How can we as a nation do more to support survivors?

5. We tend to put a lot of emphasis on research and hoping that a cure for cancer will be found. Cancer organizations like the Lance Armstrong Foundation, however, try to remind people that preventing cancer from occurring in the first place is a cure in and of itself. How do we raise awareness and access to cancer screening and prevention?

    I hope you can make room to present the amazing products in cancer research that has been done by the Dendreon group out of Seattle, Wash. Their story is truly unique with commendable results in the newer area of immunotherapy. They have just completed a second phase 3 study that promises strong results.     Hey Larry,
    Our Lowell, Michigan High School Red Arrow Football team is going to be wearing pink at our first home game on Sept. 12th. and taking a stand against a tough opponent, CANCER. Our event is called Pink Arrow Pride project and our players will be wearing the pink jersey and playing in honor of someone who has cancer or who has passed from cancer. Fans are encouraged to buy and wear a pink – Arrow Force t-shirt for free admission to the game. Our community has taken ahold of this project in a huge way in this small west michigan town. There are many events planned. Proceeds will help families in our community who are struggling with the issue associated with cancer, a scholarship in honor of a teacher/coach who died from Breast cancer and for Lowell grads who are in medical school, named after our team physician Dr. Don Gerard MD.
