What a great place to spend LIVESTRONG Day. Being here on a day like today reminds me of the roll that our federal government plays in the fight against cancer. I had the pleasure of spending the day at one of our Community Partners – The Arlington Free Clinic. The work that they do here to provide support for cancer survivors to the underserved and uninsured population is truly inspiring.
Thank you to Jim Cochran, Walter Tejada, Ron Carlee and Patricia Rodriquez for their participation in todays activities. I also had the pleasure of meeting a truly inspiring person at the clinic. Her name is Tshai Schrede – a 10 year cancer survivor from Ethiopia. Tshai was the first cancer patient that the Arlington Free Clinic helped and although she no longer needs the services of the free clinic she still gives back by volunteering there. Her support is of great comfort to the patients and reminds me of how important patient navigation is to this population.
The event ended with Vulma Vargas, a nutritionist, discussing with patients the importance of nutrition.
It was a great day all around. Last but certainly not least a special thanks goes to Jyl Pomoroy and Paula Potts.
