This week Doug, Lance and 150 members of Team LIVESTRONG are riding across Iowa. They are participating in an event called Ragbrai, which is a week long bike ride across the state of Iowa. If you have not heard of it before – click the link and check it out. It is a pretty amazing event.
All of them are participating this week to raise money and awareness for the LAF as well as to spread the word of the LIVESTRONG Army – cancer must become a national priority. To that end members of Team LIVESTRONG have raised over $300,000 to date and are working to make sure that all Iowans are engaged in the debate around cancer.
This is important for two reasons: First on August 27th and 28th the LAF will be back in Iowa (Cedar Rapids) to host the LIVESTRONG Presidential Cancer Forum and second very few states hold the sway that Iowa does in electing the President. If cancer is to become part of the national dialogue during this election cycle – Iowans are going to play an important role in making that happen.
So while Doug, Lance and the rest of Team LIVESTRONG are pedaling their way across Iowa, we are going to try our best to keep you up to speed with what is going on. Doug and Lance are sending me updates throughout the trip and I will do my best to get them up in real time.
So keep your eyes on Lance’s and Doug’s page throughout the week and if you are looking for more coverage you can check out LAF employee Chris Brewer’s Ragbrai posts on The Paceline or the Des Moines Register.
